You’ve finally unpacked the last box and are officially settled into your dorm room. You may be a bit hesitant about your freshman year and have no idea how you’re going to survive it. Well, you’re in luck buckaroo!
Here are 5 tips to survive freshmen year of college.
1. Stay Out Of Your Room
No, seriously. Only use your dorm room for sleeping—no, not with other people. Sigh. No one wants to be sexiled. It’s not fun.
A lot of dorms have community space and this is a great way to meet new people. You can have game nights, movie nights, well you get the picture. Trust me, you don’t wanna be the person alone in their dorm room and no one knows you exist. Not fun.
2. Join A Group On Campus
Just be a part of something. Bonus points if it has to do with your major. No clubs or club sports that you like? Start one then! Chances are that there are other people who love the same thing as you. Joining a group on campus is another great way to make friends who have stuff in common with you.
3. For God’s Sake Do NOT Wear Your ID Around Your Neck
Nothing screams FRESHMEAT like wearing your ID around your neck. Girls, let me introduce you to Vera Bradley. She has a cute little ID wallet combo called a wristlet that is perfect for college (I had one all four years). Guys, your ID WILL scan through your wallet. Well, they should cause my friend does it all the time.
4. Dormcest Is A Real Thing
Just remember that if you sleep with someone on your floor that you’re going to have to see them every day. EVERY DAY! Are you prepared for that? Plus sometimes floormates get pretty close and can even become a little family of friends. Are you prepared to be a Lannister?
5. Don’t Be A Douche
That’s a life rule actually. No one wants to be friends with a douche. If you’re gonna have friends come hang out in your dorm room, it’s common courtesy to let your roommate know at least 3 hours in advance.
You never know, your roommate may have to get up early for an exam that may make or break his or her semester. If this is the case be respectful of your roommate. If you’re not a douche to your roommate, then they shouldn’t be a douche to you. Expect to receive the same type of treatment you dish out.

Awesome. You created them.yourself?
No, they’re a big thing here in the U.S.
Love the list! It’s been awhile since I was a freshman but I agree about getting out of your room! I met some of my best friends and my future husband just by walking around campus and talking to people.
Good advice here, thanks!
Like the GIFS.
Your last piece of advice is golden. “Don’t be a douche.”
I went to a school where me and a lot of my friends also lived. It was a lot of fun. Also if one is going to do the walk of shame, it need to be done with dignity./love Ida
Haha! This is super accurate. I could have used this while I was in college.
