9 Healthy Habits to Change Your Life

I get it, getting healthy is tough. It seems like every week I’m saying to myself, “Okay, starting next Monday…” then I sit there and wave as Monday passes me by.

I started to do simple things at home that helped me to feel healthier and I figured I’d share these tips with you all as they are great baby steps to start your health journey.

1. No Snooze Button

I don’t hit the snooze button when I wake up in the morning. I find that whenever I do, I’m actually more tired cause my body (and yours) goes into a different sleep. So if you snooze for an extra six minutes, by the time you actually do wake up you’re going to feel even more tired than if you were to just get up the first time.

Don’t hit the snooze button, just force yourself to do what you got to do and wake up.

2. Make Your Bed Every Morning

As soon as you get up, make your bed. If you do this, right after you wake up (and don’t hit snooze) you’re less likely to get back into bed.

There is nothing like coming home to a made bed. There was a TedTalk I once watched where the guy said something along the lines of, “If you can’t do the small things like making your bed every single day, which is a simple small thing, then you can’t expect yourself to do big things and to force yourself to have the discipline to do bigger things that are going to change your life.”

I’ve noticed that sometimes I want to go to a quiet place in my home to take a call or just relax and if it’s a mess with a lot of clutter then I don’t feel good.

It’s just that one simple thing that you come home and it’s made and cozy and you feel really good.

3. Get Your Groceries Delivered

I buy my groceries online and get it delivered cause it not only saves time, but you’re less likely to impulse shop and buy foods that are unhealthy when you order your groceries online.

There are a ton of services you can use to get your groceries delivered:

4. Show Gratitude to Friends and Family

This has become an essential part of my routine. It makes me feel good and it makes others feel good as well so it’s a win-win.

It feels so good to get that random text, email, call or card saying you’re really special to me, you were thinking about them, or I love this about you, I was thinking about you today, I’m grateful for you, etc.

You don’t know what somebody else is going through. Even your closest friends or family members and with social media it’s easy to disconnect and go about our busy lives.

Sending someone a text message or calling them will not only make them feel like a rockstar, but it will make you feel good knowing that you made them feel good.

5. Eat at Home

I started cooking at home every single night and it helps so much with eating healthy and maintaining a healthy weight because you know what’s going in your food.

It’s also fun to get creative in the kitchen and gain a lot of kitchen confidence. Aka, it’s fun to know that my friends and family enjoy the food I make as well since I’ve honed my skills in the kitchen.

Pinterest has become a source for me to try out cool and fun healthy recipes. Check out my Pinterest board with recipes I’ve tried here.

6. Go On a Walk

I go on a walk with my dog every day and I put my phone on Do Not Disturb. Quiet time with nature really helps me to reset and relax at the end of the day.

Plus, with my notifications off and my phone put away it allows me to not be caught up with other things and focus time on my dog and nature.

My priority is my mental health so this is a nice disconnect from my phone and to be present in the moment.

7. Share How You Feel

When I was in high school and even college, if I had an issue with a friend I would never say anything. I would just kind of pretend as nothing happened and I realize that was an issue for me.

I really think that it’s important to say what you mean. If there’s an issue you should talk about it and it’s all about how you say something. You could actually strengthen your friendships and relationships by sharing how you feel.

8. Do 15 Minutes of Cleaning Every Day

Keep your house or apartment clean by doing 15 minutes of cleaning every single day. You can do this whenever you want, whether you do 15 minutes before bed or before you start your day in the morning.

Here are a few ideas of things to clean/do every day:

  • Wash dishes
  • Put away dishes
  • Clear island/table
  • Wipe down all countertops

For me, it’s important to have a clean home cause when the apartment is cluttered then I feel cluttered and I can’t concentration and lose my motivation.

9. Coffee…Always Coffee

Coffee is always a good idea.

But seriously though, starting next Tuesday (Sept. 3rd) I’m kicking off my health journal on Riot Riah.

I love this list! I didn’t realize there were so many grocery delivery services. I gotta check some of those out, because I’m definitely not the biggest fan of having to go to the store.

I’m a huge fan of the Walmart Grocery pickup service. I just order my items online and then pick it up on my way home from work. It’s super convenient and helpful.

Coffee IS always a good idea! =) I am a big fan of making the bed each morning, sometimes my husband teases me that it’s my way of saying no sleeping late for him! It makes a difference though and sets such a good tone for the day. And yes I do love coming home to a nicely made bed!

I enjoyed reading this list and it is so true! I am so bad with hitting the snooze button and trying not to do it too much. I would love to have my groceries delivered especially I don’t enjoy going out doing grocery shopping lol.

Hitting the snooze button is still my one crutch that I need to stop doing. I need to start tricking my body into thinking I’m late every day in order to wake up on the first alarm. lol
